On Monday, the man accused of the murder and rape of eight-year-old Tazné van Wyk appeared in court, severely beaten.
Moyhdian Pangarker is currently on trial for a slew of charges, in addition to the rape and murder of Tazné.
The accused appeared to be in shock and unable to speak as he faced the judge with a swollen eye and blood dripping from his left ear, as per News24.
Two men allegedly attacked Pangarker in the truck transporting him from Pollsmoor Prison. According to his lawyer, he is in need of immediate medical attention.
Tazné was last seen heading to a tuck shop a few metres from her parent’s house in Elsies River before she went missing. Her body was later found in a stormwater pipe along the N1 highway near Worcester. The accused was arrested in Cradock in the Eastern Cape and directed police to the location of her body, reports EWN.
Pangarker reportedly has a history of rape and abuse and is also on trial for the rape of a nine-year-old.
The trial has been postponed until Wednesday, pending feedback on his condition.
