Authorities were alerted to the body of a female found in the waters of Mossel Bay Point yesterday afternoon. Eyewitnesses were shocked to see the body in the water and immediately contacted the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA).

The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) was called in by the TNPA, and the teams located the body at approximately 3pm. It was discovered that the unidentified female body is that of a teenager, and South African Police Services (SAPS) has been called in to investigate.

The Police Dive Unit and the Police Sea Borderline Control Unit also participated in the recovering of the body, which has been handed over to the Forensic Pathology Service.

Police have opened an inquest docket.
