Following the closure of a few organisations over Christmas, the Animal Welfare Society of SA have been swamped with pets, especially patients needing complex orthopaedic operations.
The most challenging patient was an adorable 18-year-old dog owned by the dearest “old lady” one could ever hope to meet. The bond that this pair of Golden Oldies had developed over the years was very special and to say that the Animal Welfare Society of SA was anxious to subject her companion to a fairly lengthy and highly complicated orthopaedic operation would be an understatement.
Before being wheeled into theatre, Jaque Le Roux took a few minutes out of his busy schedule to embrace this grand old lady and as soon as she came around from the anaesthetic, Jaque and his colleagues were back at her side monitoring her recovery.
“Being that much older than most of our regular patients she was a real anaesthetic risk and tested the skill and know-how of our remarkable surgical team led by the amazing Dr Zhenta Stoynova”, says the Animal Welfare Society of SA.
Her post-operative recovery took a bit longer than usual, but as soon as she was well enough, the Animal Welfare Society of SA entrusted her to the care of her owner who describes her return as the best Christmas present she could ever have hoped for.
