Western Cape police have initiated a 72-hour activation plan to find the suspect that shot and killed three young women in Khayelitsha on Monday, September 27. According to reports, the bodies of the woman aged 17, 20 and 21 was discovered in a passage between the structures in the TT Block informal settlement just after several gunshots went off in the area.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa indicated that as the investigation into the murders continue, the motive for the shooting incident is yet to be determined. Potelwa also requested that anyone with information about the incident contact the police on Crime Stop 08600 10111 or submit information via My SAPS App.
The Minister of Community Safety, Albert Fritz, has also welcomed the news that SAPS has instituted a 72-hour activation plan in response to the killing of three young women in Khayelitsha on Monday evening.
“We welcome the news that SAPS has instituted a 72-hour activation plan. This means that policing resources are being mobilized in order to capture suspects and ensure that they face the full might of the law. We are monitoring the situation very closely, and we are ready to deploy additional LEAP Officers to the area,” Fritz indicated.
Fritz said further that it is really upsetting that these young people, with their whole lives ahead of them, were killed in such a brutal manner.
” We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that this kind of violence is eradicated from our streets. We will continue to work towards the safety of all our citizens,” Fritz said.
Meanwhile, residents from Khayelitsha took to the streets, demanding the City of Cape Town to fix the overflowing sewage drains in the area.
