Anichka Penev (35) was kidnapped just outside Nioro Plastics in Blackheath/Kuils River on Thursday.

According to IOL, “well-placed sources close to the investigation” have reported that a ransom demand of R5 million has been made.
On Friday, the City of Cape Town announced the formation of an inter-governmental kidnapping and extortion task force to tackle these incidents, which have increased exponentially this year.
A few kidnapping incidents in 2022:
- In January, 48 hours after being kidnapped, a 25-year-old Bangladeshi was released on R100 000 ransom.
- In March, businessman Ismail Rajah (69) was kidnapped at Good Hope Construction in Parow. He was kept hostage and tortured for 111 days at a house in Robert Sobukwe Street in Khayelitsha before being rescued by police.
- In May, four men were arrested in Langa following the disappearance of a 31-year-old businessman in Du Noon, Milnerton.
- Also in May, two-month-old baby Kai-isha Meniers was kidnapped in Bishop Lavis. The search continues.
- Bangladeshi businessman Akter Pradhan was released after being held for 15 days. The ransom demand was R20 million.
- 6-year-old Shahnawaz Asghar was kidnapped in front of his home in Kensington in August. R800 000 was demanded for his release. He was returned two days later (physically unharmed).
- 8-year-old Lukhololwam Mkontwana was kidnapped in September. R100 000 ransom was set. The minor was murdered days later.

On Saturday, officials pleaded with the public to share any information regarding Penev’s kidnapping.
