Cape Town charity The Little Optimist Trust has launched a fundraising platform that will make it easy for individuals and companies to raise funds for charities of their choice, Cape {town} Etc reports.
Based at Battery Park at the V&A Waterfront, the non-profit organisation (NPO) runs sailing development sessions for youngsters, providing regular sailing therapy days and renovation projects at under-resourced children’s homes, schools and hospitals.

The charity has also expanded its fundraising mission with the launch of The Great Optimist Challenge, which invites anyone, living anywhere, to raise funds for any charity of their choice, between 15 October and 31 December, with prizes worth R50 000 on offer.
‘We’re inviting any person or any business that wants to do something good for a charity or cause close to their heart to join The Great Optimist Challenge. Our platform will make it easy for them to fundraise and highlight whatever they choose to do to raise funds – be it swimming lengths in their pool, doing 100 cartwheels or running a marathon,’ said Greg Bertish, founder of The Little Optimist Trust.
‘Kids can do something. Grannies can do something. Anyone can do anything to support our projects, along with any other cause of their choosing, via our platform,’ Bertish added.
Various groups and individuals from all over South Africa have already signed up for The Great Optimist Challenge.
These groups include 10 groups of students from Pretoria University, an international team that rode the Wine to Whales bike ride, an in-store challenge at leading retailer Italtile, as well as children and families hosting mini-challenges and pool parties.
In total, 38 challenges have already been registered, which has raised over R161 000 for The Little Optimist Trust and other charities. The final goal is to raise R500 000 by the end of December 2024.
‘People want to do good and help causes that resonate with them – we’re just making it easy for them to do so. And so we challenge everyone out there: Do any challenge, anytime, anywhere, anyhow. Help us do great things for the greater good,’ said Bertish.
