‘Whether it’s a weekend family getaway or a stylish shuttle for executives, the Tourneo’s advanced connectivity, sleek design, and luxurious features make it an appealing choice in the multi-activity vehicle market,’ remarked Doreen Mashinini, General Manager of Marketing at Ford South Africa, in the vehicle’s press release. Ford South Africa took the concept of multi-activity seriously during the vehicle’s launch in September.
Upon arrival at Cape Town International Airport, we were welcomed by a striking fleet of luxury MPVs, with more seats available than media attendees for the final leg, ensuring ample space even in the eight-seater models.

Spending time in the back row was a priority for our trio of drivers as we journeyed up the West Coast. Our first stop was Route 27 for coffee and some delicious roosterkoek. Over the two-day adventure, we found ourselves eating as much as driving, perfectly embodying the lifestyle envisioned for Tourneo owners: hitting the road, exploring new spots, and enjoying meals with family. Next, we continued to Veldriff, where I had my first taste of bokkoms before taking my turn at the wheel.
The Tourneo and similar vehicles are designed with passenger comfort in mind, yet the driving experience is impressively refined. The 2.0L SiT diesel engine in the Tourneo Trend offers 100kW of power at 3 500 r/min and delivers 360Nm of torque between 1 750 and 2 500 r/min. The new eight-speed automatic transmission provides smooth power delivery to the front wheels, making the Tourneo responsive and surprisingly powerful.
After a delightful seafood lunch at a local spot, I settled into the back row, enjoying features like a rear 12V socket and three USB ports, alongside a front dual USB (A and C) and a 12V socket. The sophisticated front end includes a 13-inch central touchscreen powered by Ford’s SYNC®4 infotainment system, which supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, along with a 12-inch instrument cluster featuring an 8-inch configurable digital display. Wireless charging is standard.
The final leg of our drive was unforgettable. Our destination was the Shark Bay Hotel in Langebaan, but we first navigated through the West Coast National Park, catching one of Spring’s first breathtaking sunsets. The fleet cruised along Kraalbaai’s water’s edge, surrounded by dunes and lush greenery, reaching the hotel just as golden hour arrived. Another sumptuous meal awaited us as we prepared for an early start.

The next morning, we rushed to the entrance of the WCNP, eager to witness the spring flowers in full bloom—a sight that graces the park only for two months each year. We retraced our steps from the previous day, marvelling at the vibrant fields of flowers greeting the rising sun.
On our return, we passed through Darling to Evita se Perron, where we enjoyed a performance by Pieter Dirk Uys as Evita Bezuidenhout. After a hilarious hour and a half, we were treated to lunch at the renowned Darling Brewery. With ample passenger space in the Tourneo fleet, many of us opted for a beer tasting before relaxing in the back rows while our designated drivers returned us to Cape Town International.
The springtime launch along Cape Town’s West Coast, which offered a bit of everything, perfectly introduced the Ford Tourneo—an ideal companion for both adventure and city travel.
