The City of Cape Town announced that residents in the Claremont, Kenilworth and Wynberg areas will need to brace themselves for disruptions in the water supply.
According to the City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate, it will be conducting zero pressure tests on the main water supply in these areas which will take place on Wednesday, 17 August, at 9:00pm until 04:00am on Thursday, 18 August.
“Zero-pressure testing is part of the installation process for pressure management technology. Tests are done to see if there are any unmapped inflows that need to be taken into account before smart pressure reducing valves are installed,” the City said in a statement.
Residents are being advised to store water in clean, sealed containers to utilise during these periods to ensure that taps are closed. This will help avoid water loss or damage when the water supply is restored.
This form of maintenance forms part of the City’s “Water Demand Management Strategy” which helps reduce pipe bursts and water wastage.
