Motorists across Cape Town are being urged to stay on high alert as several key routes have been flagged as high-risk areas for smash-and-grab incidents, Cape {town} Etc reports.
A number of busy roads and intersections have been identified as danger zones, particularly along Jakes Gerwel Drive between Bonteheuwel and Langa, as well as the N2 near Borcherds Quarry on the approach to the airport through Nyanga.
Other areas raising concern include the robots near the Stellenbosch Arterial Fire Station on the Belhar side, sections of Elsies River around 35th Street and Owen Road, and the intersection of Malibongwe Drive and the N7 in the Du Noon area.
Drivers have also been warned about Van Riebeeck Road near the Beaconvale industrial zone, close to Elwood High School, along with parts of Philippi Main Road.
Most incidents are reported to take place when vehicles are stationary, particularly at traffic lights, where criminals take advantage of distracted drivers and slow-moving traffic.

The risk appears to increase during late afternoons and early evenings, as well as over weekends and other peak traffic periods when roads are busiest.
Motorists are advised to take simple precautions to reduce their chances of being targeted, including keeping valuables out of sight before setting off, avoiding cellphone use while stopped at intersections, and ensuring doors are locked and windows are fully closed.
Staying aware of surroundings at all times remains one of the most effective ways to prevent falling victim, especially in areas already identified as known hotspots.
