Another death has been announced by the Cape Town Cycle Tour organisers, bringing to total 3 people who lost their lives at Sunday’s event.

“We have received the sad news that late yesterday afternoon one of our Rotary marshalls passed away in hospital,” said marketing, media and sponsorship director of the Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust, David Bellair.

A Rotary marshall stationed on an S-bend after the Llandudno turnoff tragically passed away. Rotary marshalls volunteer alongside the Cape Town Cycle Tour organisers to assist during the event. Two other deaths occurred during the race, a 40-year-old was killed in a 20 man pile-up and another cyclist passed away after suffering a heart attack. The names of the deceased have not been released by their families.

Bellair said that the circumstances surrounding the incident are unclear and police are investigating the incident, no further details have been provided.
