According to the leading UK global education consultancy group, Bishops Diocesan College was selected alongside KwaZulu-Natal’s Michaelhouse, giving two South African schools their well-deserved place in the global spotlight.
‘Now in its fifth year, the Schools Index has become a valuable resource for parents looking for the very best education for their child, wherever they are in the world,’ said Head of Education at Carfax Education Fiona McKenzie.
‘The demand for excellent schools grows and remains fiercely competitive as parents strive to ensure their child receives the strongest foundations to set them up for a lifetime of success.’
Each year, leading education consultants at Carfax Education, which offers a guide for parents seeking the best education regardless of their location worldwide, select the list of schools while international experts curate the guide.
‘Each school is recognised as notable for their individual footprint in education, including academic standards, facilities and preparation for university entry,’ the index explained.
In addition to academic results, a comprehensive overview of curriculum, fees and other practical information, the listing also assesses each private school’s unique ethos, reputation and how they prepare their students for life beyond academia.
Recognised for its focus on value-based education, Carfax Education described Bishops as ‘shaping young minds since its establishment in 1849’.
‘This prestigious institution offers “a unique space for boys to develop at their own pace, catering for their own individual needs” and boys aged 11 to 18 thrive here academically, culturally and athletically.
The robust South African curriculum delivers high academic standards and, beyond the classroom, sports is a huge part of the culture of the school, as is the Eisteddfod, an annual celebration of arts and culture.
Bishops prioritises community engagement, with boys involved in local outreach programmes, ensuring they grow not just as scholars, but as responsible citizens. It’s vibrant campus life, combined with a strong emphasis on tradition and excellence, prepares Bishops alumni for impactful futures.
