The charred bodies of three unidentified individuals were found in the Muizenberg neighbourhood of Hillview on the evening of Sunday, February 16. According to reports, police are swarmed across the area this morning [Monday, February 17].

The incident was reported to the Muizenberg police station on Sunday evening, and it appears the victims were burned to death. Several South African Police Services (SAPS) officers and City of Cape Town Law Enforcement made their way to the area after the discovery was reported.

“A heavy police contingent is keeping an eye on an area in Hillview, Muizenberg following an incident where three yet-to-be-identified bodies were found burned to death on Sunday night. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the police. The situation remains tense in the area although no further incidents were reported overnight,” SAPS brigadier Novela Potelwa said in a statement.

The motive of the incident is still being probed.
