Three Gender Based Violence and femicide convictions were handed down in the Western Cape High Court this week ahead of Tuesday’s second presidential GBVF Summit in Midrand.
The cases pertain to the rape and murder of eight-year-old, Tazne Van Wyk, as wells as the murders of 26-year-old Allison Plaatjies and 35-year-old Nosicelo Tsipa.
Van Wyk’s killer, who was not named to protect another of his victims, will return to the dock on 6 January 2022 for sentencing after he was found guilty of rape and murder last week.
The perpetrator was arrested in the Eastern Cape following the eight-year-old’s disappearance near her Elsies River home in February 2020.
He then led police to her body in a storm water pipe along the N1 highway near Worcester.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated matter, the ex-boyfriend of 26-year-old, Allison Plaatjies, a teacher from Clanwilliam, was convicted on a charge of premeditated murder and will return to court for sentencing on 1 December.
Plaatjies’ murderer, Phillip April, killed his ex-girlfriend in October of 2019 after they had broken up.
In the third instance, Babsy Ntamehlo was also found guilty of premeditated murder following the death of his estranged wife, Nosicelo Tsipa, following a dispute over an RDP house.
He strangled Tsipa. Her partially burnt remains were found buried in a shallow grave in Fisantekraal near Durbanville in September 2020.
Ntamehlo is due back in court for sentencing late next month.
