It is reported that two individuals sustained serious to critical injuries, while one person tragically lost their life on the City of Cape Town-owned Pine Road plot.
As this is a developing story, details remain scarce, and the motive behind the shooting has yet to be determined.
The community, already grappling with various social issues, now faces the aftermath of this shocking act of violence.
U-Watch Woodstock, an advocacy group focused on community welfare, expressed their deep sadness over the events, highlighting ongoing concerns about the state of their neighbourhood.
In a statement, the organisation stated, ‘We have been raising the plight of the Pine Road Community who are subjected to fires, substance abuse and now a murder,’
The group lamented the lack of intervention from local authorities despite repeated calls for action, urging the City to take notice of the deteriorating conditions.
‘Not only Pine Road but Douglas Square, where a male was murdered, and St James Street clinic, too, where a male died in a fire. We need to see change happen quickly at these locations,’
U-Watch noted. ‘How many more people must die on City-owned land?’
As investigations continue into the shooting, U-Watch and other community leaders are calling for immediate action to address these pressing issues.
