A young woman shared a breakdown of the salaries of Checkers Sixty60 drivers on her TikTok platform last week. After highlighting the minimal earnings, she urged consumers to urgently begin tipping the drivers as much as they can afford to, Cape {town} Etc reports.

In the video, TikTok user @steph_again pointed out that the gross monthly earnings of the drivers amounts to approximately R7600.
From this amount, fuel costs amounting to R3200 need to be deducted.
Some drivers are required to rent their own bikes for transportation, which costs another R1600.
This means that drivers stand to earn as little as R2800 per month.

These calculations are based on drivers completing a total of 13 trips per day.
However, debates arose in the comment section of the posted video, as people rushed to share their thoughts.
One user commented ‘no guys let’s stop putting the onus on the public and start putting it onto the companies! Why can’t they pay their drivers a livable wage? I already pay taxes and tip about 50 people a day. Enough!’
‘This should not be the customers problem. Checkers just needs to pay its drivers’ commented another user.
@steph_again replied, stating ‘you’re right and it’s not your problem. I’m just saying IF you can afford to tip them nicely knowing they’re underpaid, it’s a good thing to do.’
