As summer approaches, so does the snake breeding season. As such, visitors to the Lower Tokai Forest area are advised to be cautious of snakes that are on the move, Cape {town} Etc reports.

Specifically, locals are advised to be extra cautious of the conservation site in the Lower Tokai area.
Over the last two days, there have been two reports of snake sightings.
It is advised that dogs are kept away for their own safety and to ensure the safety of the snakes.
Residents are further warned to be cautious of where they walk and to be vigilant as far as children are concerned.

Most snakes tend to avoid contact but will defend themselves if caught by surprise, this applies particularly to dogs that charge through fields of long grass.
Another factor to be taken into account, is the fact that puff adders are noted to be less likely to get out of the way.
Most snakes are inclined to stay in the conservation area but some tend to cross through the plantation and the field next to the riding arena in search of mates while others will go to the river to quench their thirst.
Furthermore, should your dog become victim to a snake bite, it is strongly recommended to take them to a veterinarian or emergency vet as quickly as possible.
Lastly, locals are not permitted to kill or harm any snakes.
