A City Traffic Officer sustained minor injuries, while chasing a taxi driver who failed to stop as instructed in Wynberg. The incident transpired at the intersection of Main and Milbank Roads on Thursday morning [October 8].

“The officer pursued the taxi on foot. During the chase, a private security guard driving in the area saw what was going on and fired two warning shots,” said Maxine Jordaan City  of Cape Town Traffic Services spokesperson. “No injuries were reported from the shots fired, but the Traffic Officer fell during the pursuit. The suspect escaped and the taxi was abandoned in the roadway. All services are on scene.”

The taxi driver was apprehended and returned to the scene, where the Traffic Officer identified him. A docket has been opened at SAPS Wynberg for reckless and negligent driving.
