Cape Town police are working with the family of a man who fell to his death from the 28th floor of Hotel Sky last Monday, June 9.
While his identity has been confirmed, authorities have not yet released it to the public, reports Cape {town} Etc.
According to Smile FM, an autopsy has been completed, but the cause of death will only be revealed during an official inquest.
Initially, DNA tests were needed due to the body’s condition, but police have since contacted the deceased’s next of kin.
The man, who was a walk-in guest not registered at the hotel, accessed the 27th-floor Sky Lounge before proceeding to the restricted 28th-floor rooftop.
It remains unclear how he entered the off-limits area, typically secured with access control.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident. Updates will follow as the investigation continues.
7pm – June 09, 2025: Western Cape police have confirmed that an investigation has been launched after a harrowing incident that has left the Cape Town community in shock, where a man died jumping from the rooftop of Hotel Sky on Monday afternoon, reports Cape {town} Etc.
Police spokesperson Captain F.C. Van Wyk disclosed that crime scene experts and Cape Town Central SAPS detectives are diligently working at the scene, meticulously combing the area for clues that could shed light on the circumstances surrounding the incident.
‘A post-mortem will be conducted to ascertain the individual’s race, age, and the exact cause of death.’

Hotel Sky Cape Town Managing Director Paul Kelley confirmed with the deepest sadness that a tragic and isolated incident occurred at the hotel today (Monday) involving a walk-in visitor who tragically took his own life by jumping off the top of the hotel rooftop.
‘We are devastated by this unexpected event, and our heartfelt condolences go out to the individual’s family and loved ones during this time of profound loss.’
‘It is important for us to all recognise mental health illness and depression and to recognise where people need help and assistance and to never take these incidents for granted as a community,’ Kelley said.
Kelley added that ‘Hotel Sky Cape Town would like to reiterate that this unfortunate incident had nothing to do with Sky Hi Ride, as these two areas are separate locations.’
‘Hotel Sky Cape Town remains a safe and secure environment for all guests, visitors and staff which fully complies with international and local safety and security measures.’
June 9, 2025 – In a harrowing incident that has left the Cape Town community in shock, a male individual has died after reportedly jumping from the rooftop of Hotel Sky on Monday afternoon, reports Cape {town} Etc.
The incident, which is suspected to be a suicide, occurred on Lower Long Street, situated between Walter Sisulu Avenue and Wharf Street in the bustling City Bowl area.
Emergency services swiftly responded to the distressing scene on Monday afternoon.
Road closures have been put in place as authorities continue to process the scene. Commuters in the area have been advised to approach with caution, as delays are expected.
Motorists are encouraged to seek alternative routes to avoid the affected area.
