The Accidents and Incidents Investigations Division (AIID) has launched an investigation into a tragic aircraft accident that occurred at the Morningstar Airfield in Cape Town on Sunday morning, resulting in the loss of two lives.
The aircraft, a Sling 2 with registration ZU-FWF, took flight at approximately 11am before crashing shortly thereafter, raising serious concerns about aviation safety in the region, reports Cape {town} Etc.
According to preliminary reports, the two individuals on board included a flight instructor and a private licence holder.
Both occupants suffered fatal injuries in the crash, which left the aircraft substantially damaged on impact.
Eyewitness accounts suggest that the flight experienced difficulties shortly after take-off, leading to an urgent investigation into the proper procedures followed by the crew during the flight.
AIID officials have been dispatched to the crash site to gather evidence and assess the damage.
A comprehensive preliminary report detailing the findings of the investigation will be made available on the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) website within 30 days of the incident, promising transparency in the unfolding investigation.
In a statement, the AIID extended its heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the deceased, emphasising the emotional toll such incidents have on the community and the aviation industry at large.

In a tragic incident that has shocked the local community, two people have lost their lives following a plane crash on Sunday, November 30, 2025.
The crash occurred around 12:40pm near the N7 at the boundary of Zone 2 and Morningstar, close to the Morningstar Airfield and an Ostrich Farm, raising concerns about air safety in the region, reports Cape {town} Etc.
According to police spokesperson Captain F.C Van Wyk, emergency teams and authorities swiftly responded to the scene to assess the aftermath of the disaster.
‘This office can confirm a fatal airplane crash on Sunday, at about 12:40 pm at Vissershok airfield Philadelphia. The two occupants died due to injuries sustained,’ Van Wyk stated.
As investigators scramble to piece together the circumstances that led to the fatal incident, the Philadelphia police have registered an inquest case, which is expected to facilitate a thorough investigation, Van Wyk said.
