A fire that started at the Eerste River train station early this morning [March 20] was quickly doused when fire crews from the Mfuleni, Kuils River and Belhar fire stations arrived on scene.

“The City’s Fire & Rescue Service responded to reports of the fire at the station at about 4.50am this morning,” said spokesperson Jermaine Carelse in a statement.

“When crews arrived on the scene, there were no passengers on board the train and the blaze was extinguished by 5.55am. The scene was then handed over to PRASA.”

Commuters are advised to expect disruptions to the Muldersvlei and Strand train service as a result.
