The SPCA is appealing to the public not to abandon unwanted pets after four dogs were rescued from a canal in Southfield last week.
It is believed that the animals were dumped in the canal with no means of escaping.
According to the SPCA, one of the dogs was found shivering in a bundle and had clearly been sitting in the same spot, hoping to be rescued.
The other three bolted when they saw humans, making it extra hard for inspectors to rescue them.

“Our inspectors battled for three days to capture the dogs and it felt like a victory when they finally managed to rescue them,” read a statement.
“Through persistence, they managed to successfully rescue the dogs and bring them to the safety of the Cape of Good Hope SPCA.”
“It was evident that the dogs had been in the canal for some time as there appeared to be an area which they made ‘their own’.”
“An excessive amount of faeces was observed under one section of an overbridge.”
The SPCA thanked the person that contacted them with updates on the whereabouts of the dogs in the canal and called on anyone with information to come forward “
We cannot rescue animals without the ongoing support of the public.”
“We will never turn an animal away. No judgement and no questions will be asked.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact the SPCA Inspectorate via email at [email protected]
