There are only 49 days left until the 2023 Vitality Netball World Cup will come to Cape Town. It will be the first time ever that the tournament will be hosted on African soil.

The tournament will start on Friday, 28 July, when South Africa will play their first match against Wales. A total of 16 teams will battle it out across 10 days at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC).
‘I couldn’t be prouder of the incredible journey we’ve been on in bringing the Vitality Netball World Cup 2023 to Cape Town,’ says Vitality Netball World Cup 2023 board chairperson Patience Shikwambana. ‘Our teams are working tirelessly to ensure this is an event which will leave an indelible mark on the sport of netball and on our nation. Our goal is to showcase not only the very best of netball talent from across the globe but also the best of what South Africa and the continent of Africa have to offer.’
To celebrate this event, the Western Cape Government will host a trophy tour across the province from 3 to 7 July. The trophy will travel to various towns, including the Garden Route, Central Karoo, Overberg, Cape Winelands and the West Coast before making its final stop in Cape Town.
In addition, the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport will support municipalities in hosting fan zones and viewing centres, so communities are welcome to view matches from wherever they are.
‘We will see the start of the first match in Cape Town and we are so proud to be hosting this prestigious tournament,’ says minister of cultural affairs and sport, Anroux Marais. ‘I want to call on everyone in the Western Cape to help us build excitement and to show our Proteas team that we are all backing them to keep the trophy in South Africa. We are expecting large numbers of travelling fans but we would like the people of the Western Cape to bring the unique gees that we have seen in the past.
‘Whether you are attending matches in person, watching at a fan zone or viewing centre or supporting from home, let us bring the energy to help our team across the line!’
