Two suspects were arrested in connection with the murder of an elderly couple in Ottery. The suspects were apprehended on Thursday evening following intense investigations by Lansdowne detectives.

Rugaya and Riedwaan Addinall, who were both 82 years old, were found by their son strangled in their home on January 6. The couple was originally from Blackheath and had moved to Ottery 18 months before the incident.

Previous reports stated that neighbours believed the murderers knew the couple and had entered their house to rob them, and that video cameras from neighbouring homes had captured footage of the two alleged killers fleeing from the scene carrying small appliances.

“Detectives assigned to the case worked around the clock in search of the suspects, aged 20 and 29, who were both arrested at a residence in Delft. One of the suspects was acquainted with the victims,” South African Police Services (SAPS) Colonel André Traut said to IOL.

The suspects will appear in court in Wynberg on Monday.
