Two Bellville police officers were sentenced to three years or to pay a R30 000 fine after they threatened to leak photos on social media after catching a man in a car with a teenager.
The police officers demanded that the man pay them R4000 and accused the man of an indecent act with a minor, reports News24.
National Prosecuting Authority Western Cape spokesperson, Eric Ntabazalila, said police officers, Steven Jacobs and Denzil Abrahams pulled up to a man who had been parked off Voortrekker Road and accused him of an indecent act with the 16-year-old in his car.
The officers also helped themselves to six drum microphones in the man’s boot. They took a picture of the teen and the man and threatened to put it on social media saying they were doing something indecent.
The man reported it to the police on the deadline for payment and they then applied for permission to set up a trap and it was authorised. The money was given to the man to hand over to the two officers, and thereafter he was given a breakdown of how the plan would work.
Once the handover was done, police stopped the two corrupt officers’ vehicle and found R100 notes under the seat. They showed their trump card, along with photocopies of the money, and arrested the two.
Meanwhile, police in the Western Cape has asked the public for assistance in finding a suspect who is wanted for a list of crimes he committed in Cape Town, Khayelitsha and the Eastern Cape. However, police have urged the public to note that the suspect is armed and dangerous and should not be approached, reports IOL.
Yanga Endrey Nyalara, 30, also known as Bara is wanted on an array of serious and violence crimes dating back to 2016.
According to provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Andrè Traut, warrants for Nyalara’s arrest have been issued and the investigating officers are eager to get into contact with anyone with more information regarding where he could be hiding.
“Lieutenant Colonel Victor Norman Galant (082 469 1539) and Detective Sergeant Shaun Fortuin (067 928 9687) are eager to come in contact with any person who can shed light on Nyalara’s whereabouts. There is a possibility that he could also be in the Eastern Cape, or other parts of the country,” Traut said as per IOL.
He is also wanted on charges of murder, attempted murder, assault and possession of unlicensed firearms. These crimes were committed between 2018 and 2022, in Khayelitsha and Nyalara is wanted for a cash-in-transit robbery that took place in Libode in the Eastern Cape in 2018.
