Firemen Joswin Lameyer and Khuselo Blaai were on shift at Mfuleni Fire Station when a pregnant woman arrived, complaining of obstetric pains, Cape {town] Etc reports.
The two men acted swiftly once it had been made clear that the summoned paramedics would not arrive in time to assist the woman.
When the woman arrived, complaining of irregular pains, the two men immediately called the paramedics from the Macassar Fire Station; however, it was evident that the baby had no intention of waiting for their arrival.
The pair then had to assist the mother with her delivery, as an ambulance emergency assistant provided them with telephonic instructions.
Following this, a healthy baby boy was born and the brave civil servants were then able to clamp and cut the umbilical cord.
Soon after the ordeal, both mother and son were transported to the Site C Community Health Centre in Khayelitsha.
