Two people, including a taxi driver, are in critical condition in hospital following a taxi crash in Cape Town on the afternoon of Sunday, 18 August. The accident occurred on the N2 at Hospital Bend, Cape {town} Etc reports.

According to police, the collision involved two taxis on the N2 highway, causing one of them to veer off the road. The taxi then crashed into nearby fences, rolled over, and collided with a security hut before ending up in a parking lot. Fortunately, the security guard in the hut was unharmed.
Witness Innocent Maputi (44) reported that the taxi was travelling from Cape Town on the N2 when another taxi, heading in the same direction, pushed it off the road.

‘If there were more people in the taxi we would be talking about deaths. The way the incident happened was so terrible. The other taxi that was involved was not damaged that much,’ Maputi said.
Byron La Hoe, spokesperson for the Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness, confirmed that the minibus taxi crashed into the security hut, but the guard managed to escape unharmed and was offered counselling by the hospital.
‘Two injured vehicle occupants, including the driver, were admitted for treatment at the hospital. One patient is currently admitted in the hospital’s high care unit, and the other patient has been discharged,’ La Hoe stated.
Woodstock police responded to the incident on Sunday, 18 August, and found the two minibuses that had collided on the N2 highway at Hospital Bend.
‘Two males were transported to a nearby hospital with injuries for medical treatment. Woodstock police registered a case of reckless and negligent driving for further investigation. We appeal to anyone who can shed light on the circumstances surrounding this incident to please call Crime Stop on 08600 10111,’ said police spokesperson Swartbooi.
