Two people were shot and killed in a suspected taxi-related shooting incident in Citrusdal on the West Coast on Wednesday, August 11. The latest incident comes after rival taxi associations came to an agreement on certain routes in the Western Cape.
According to police spokesperson, Andre Traut, the men, aged 34 and 43, was shot by unknown suspects at a pickup point for farmworkers in Riverview, SABC reports.
Traut says no arrests have been made yet as police are currently investigating if the shooting is linked to ongoing taxi violence in Cape Town.
Meanwhile, SAPS and SA National Defence Force are continuing to monitor any possible flare-ups of violence as Cape Town’s taxi industry resumes talks over the B97 route between Mbekweni in Paarl and Bellville.
As reported by News 24, the second round of arbitration is set to take place between August 14 and 20 as members from the Cape Amalgamated Taxi Association (CATA) and Congress of Democratic Taxi Association (Codeta) table their issues regarding this route.
