The Western Cape Anti-Corruption Unit arrested two law enforcement officers on 13 January 2026 for allegedly accepting a R3000 bribe, Cape {town} Etc reports.
The arrest has raised concerns about corruption within the department and sparked a renewed call for transparency among the ranks of law enforcement.
The two officers, who have not yet been named, were reportedly on duty on 5 January when they intercepted a driver suspected of being intoxicated while driving along Voortrekker Road in Parow.
Instead of carrying out their duty and arresting the individual for drunken driving, the officers allegedly struck a corrupt deal, offering the driver an escape route from legal troubles in exchange for a bribe of R3000.
According to Constable Ndakhe Gwala, a spokesperson for the police, the officers took a video of the driver in question and stored their contacts in his mobile phone, permitting him to settle the payment at a later date.
‘The driver decided to take action and approached the corruption unit detectives, who advised him to play along,’ Gwala explained.

The staged interaction culminated in a well-coordinated undercover trap operation on 13 January, where officers provided the driver with marked bank notes to present to the corrupt officers at a predetermined meeting point.
When the suspects arrived and proceeded to delete the incriminating video in front of the driver, they unwittingly accepted the marked notes, leading to their immediate arrest.
Both officers were taken into custody on the spot, and their mobile devices as well as the marked notes were seized as crucial evidence.
They are expected to make their first court appearance at the Bellville Magistrate’s Court following the charges against them.
Constable Gwala further urged the community, particularly victims of corruption, to come forward and report similar instances to facilitate further investigations.
