Two people have allegedly drowned in the Bonnievale area after a heavy storm has hit parts of the Western Cape on Wednesday, May 5. It is alleged the two got trapped after a truck got stuck between a river and a vineyard in Angora Road.
As reported by EWN, this is one of several incidents that were reported in the province on Wednesday and on Thursday, May 6. The community of Struisbaai near the Cape Agulhas had to be evacuated due to the storms. Meanwhile, humanitarian relief organisation, Gift of the Givers has indicated that it has been approached to assist residents in Struisbaai, SABC reports.

Founder Dr Imtiaz Soolaiman said their teams have already loaded vehicles with blankets, mattresses, sanitary bags, diapers, baby cereal, masks, sanitisers, bottled water, and bulk food to be used for cooking for the next three to five days providing three meals a day for those that were displaced.

The Minister of Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning, Anton Bredell has commended the emergency services for working tirelessly throughout the night.
Bredell has also urged residents to take care over the few days, as he hopes no major incidents are going to be reported.
