Residents are advised the City of Cape Town’s contractors responsible for collecting recycling in the northern suburbs will aim to clear the backlog this weekend.

There has been a delay with servicing green-lid bins for recycling in the northern suburbs due to a dispute between the contractor operating the facility in Kraaifontein and their employees.

The service is expected to normalise over the coming days.

Residents are advised the contractors will be clearing the backlog in the areas listed below this weekend.

Residents need to leave their recycling bins out until 6pm on the scheduled day of removal. If they are not serviced on the day, then they can be taken back onto the property and placed out again on their next scheduled collection day in the week.

Residents are also advised the Kraaifontein Integrated Waste Management Facility is not be able to receive greens as there is a fire on site at the greens waste pile, which is being attended to. During this time, the public is advised to use alternative facilities and the Bellville Landfill site which is the closest facility to Kraaifontein.

“Thank you for your patience during this time,” the City said.
