On Thursday, 4 October, police in Milnerton were alerted to a strange and disturbing discovery – what appeared to be a human skeleton with only the remains of feet still intact had washed up on picture perfect Sunset Beach.

“On their arrival at the scene the police found human remains, and an inquest was opened, which is still under investigation,” South African Police Services (SAPS) spokesperson, Captain FC Van Wyk, said in response to multiple queries on the progress of the inquest.

He added that DNA testing conducted on the remains reflect that the skeleton belongs to a woman. “It cannot be identified as belonging to who,” Van Wyk added.

SAPS has also requested that anyone who reported a missing female come forward for samples to be taken for tests to determine whether the DNA is connected to the samples taken from the remains.

Anyone with information or samples is encouraged to come forward to Milnerton Police Station.
