This advisory comes from the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) Kommetjie, shedding light on dangerous conditions that could put many lives at risk.
According to the NSRI, emergency services were activated early this morning to assist a casualty on the northern side of the beach, adjacent to the car park.
The lagoon’s water has violently flowed into the sea, creating perilous conditions that have prompted local authorities, including SANParks, to take immediate action.
‘The Noordhoek lagoon is now reported to be wide, deep, and flowing with considerable force as it channels toward the ocean,’ SANParks stated in a release.
‘With high tide approaching, the situation along the northern stretch of the beach is especially hazardous,’
In light of these alarming developments, SANParks has urged the public to adhere to the following safety guidelines:
- Avoid the northern section of Noordhoek Beach, particularly near the car park.
- Keep children and pets well away from the water’s edge in this area.
- Do not attempt to cross the lagoon channel under any circumstances.
- Remain vigilant as conditions can change rapidly while the breakout is active.
