Urgent recall issued for Slimsy Pomegranate Squash due to safety concerns

The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has issued a warning to consumers regarding a significant product recall involving Slimsy Pomegranate Squash Concentrate, reports Cape {town} Etc.

This recall affects batches of the 6% Slimsy Pomegranate Squash Concentrate in one-litre bottles, which are believed to pose potential health hazards due to packaging defects.

According to the NCC, around 17,364 units of the product have been made available in the market, all of which were distributed across multiple provinces, including Gauteng, Western Cape, Eastern Cape, Free State, and KwaZulu-Natal.

The affected products, which carry a best before date of 14 October 2026, were on sale between 22 January 2026 and 23 March 2026.

The core issue prompting this recall pertains to the bottles exhibiting signs of being blown or swollen. Such deformities raise alarming safety concerns, as they suggest potential gas formation within the packaging.

Should these bottles rupture, there is a risk of physical injury to consumers. Even more worrying is the possibility of ingesting the contents, which could result in foodborne illnesses.

The NCC has urged consumers who have purchased the affected pomegranate squash concentrate to refrain from consuming it immediately.

Instead, they are advised to return the product to the point of purchase for a full refund. In a bid to safeguard public health, the NCC has also called on retailers to remove the defective products from their shelves without delay.

As part of its ongoing commitment to consumer safety, the NCC will closely monitor the effectiveness of the recall to ensure compliance with the Consumer Protection Act.
