The City of Cape Town’s Water and Sanitation Directorate has advised that various parts of the Mother City will experience water supply disruptions this week as the team conducts planned work on its water supply infrastructure, reports Cape {town} Etc.
The following areas will be affected:
Maintenance work: pipe and valve installations, repairs and replacements
Delft
- Tuesday, 21 October, from 10am to 12pm
A City-appointed contractor will be conducting field investigations in the Delft pressure management zone for the existing water supply network. The project, aimed at improving the stability of the water supply network and minimise water and pressure losses in the area, is expected to run for approximately two months.
The contractor will be conducting a test shut-off on Tuesday to confirm that the pressure zone is completely isolated. Residents can expect no water during this time.
Parts of Gardens
- Monday, 20 October until Tuesday, 3 March 2026
A City-appointed contractor will be conducting a water pipeline replacement project in Higgo Crescent, Summerseat Close, Higgo Avenue and Trek Road, Gardens. The work will be carried out from 8am to 5pm, Mondays to Fridays, as well as on weekends and public holidays if necessary.
Parts of Sunnydale
- Tuesday, 21 October, from 8am to 6pm
The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will temporarily shut off the water supply to connect the newly installed 350mm diameter steel water pipeline along Kommetjie Main Road from the Capri Drive junction to the Wood Road junction to the existing water supply infrastructure.
The area affected by the shut-off will be erven fed by the water mains in Chasmay Road, Pokela Road and Lekkerwater Road
Parts of Vredehoek
- Tuesday, 21 October, from 9am to 6pm

Parts of the CBD
- Tuesday, 21 October, from 9am to 6pm
The directorate will temporarily shut off the water supply in Buitengracht Service Road between Whitford and Orphan Street, and possibly the immediate surrounds to do a new connection to the local water supply network.
Parts of Wynberg
- Tuesday, 21 October, from 10am to 4pm
The directorate will do a test shut-off of the water supply to part of Wynberg Main Road from the Maynard Mall to Constantia Main Road, and possibly the immediate surrounds. Residents in the area can expect no water during this period.
The temporary shut will assist the maintenance team to determine the impact when the actual shut-off will be done on the corner of Wynberg Main Road and Egglestone Road, and Wynberg Main Road and Langley Road to connect the newly installed pipeline to the existing water supply at a date to be determined.
Parts of Lentegeur and Watergate
- Tuesday, 21 October, from 9am to 1pm
- Thursday, 30 October, from 8am to 6pm
The directorate will do a test shut-off of the water supply to part of Lentegeur and Watergate on Tuesday to assist the maintenance team to determine the impact when the actual shut-off will be done on Thursday to accommodate the upgrade of the 300mm diameter water main in Highlands Drive.
Candytuft Street and all the roads leading to and from Candytuft Street and possibly immediate surrounds as well as Watergate, will experience low water pressure to no water during these periods.
The City added that a water tanker will be placed in the area during the actual shut-off.
Parts of Woodstock
- Wednesday, 22 October, from 9am to 4pm
- Wednesday, 29 October, from 9am to 4pm

Parts of Boston
- Wednesday, 22 October, from 9am to 6pm
The directorate will temporarily shut off the water supply to 10th, 11th and 13th Avenues, and possibly the immediate surrounds, to install a cross-connection and associated valves on the corner of 12th Avenue and Lincoln Street, Boston.

Zero-pressure tests (ZPT) and conditional assessments
- Tuesday, 21 October, from 10am to 4pm: Kraaifontein, Peerless Park East, Peerless Park West, Scottsville and Eikendal
- Wednesday, 22 October, from 10am to 4pm: Vredekloof, Welgelee, Arauna, Morgenster, St Kilda, Marlborough Park, Brackenfell Industrial and Okavango Park
In these affected areas, some residents may experience low water pressure, while some may have no water during the testing period. Unfortunately, it is not possible to predict which exact areas or streets will experience disruptions.
The City added that additional zone management investigations will be carried out to ensure that existing infrastructure is operating effectively. Residents may experience pressure fluctuations during this time.
What residents need to know about larger-scale planned water supply disruptions
The City says careful consideration has been given to the planning of this work to ensure it is being done at a time that is least disruptive to the water supply.
However, maintenance work can sometimes be more complex than anticipated, resulting in longer-than-expected periods of water supply disruptions.
Additionally, all sites where water and sanitation repairs and upgrades are conducted are deemed to be construction sites and, as such, are off-limits to members of the public.
The City advises that for a short period after the water supply is restored, the water may be discoloured or milky in appearance due to the presence of trapped air in the pipes. If left to stand, the water will become clear in colour again.
How to prepare
Residents are encouraged to keep taps closed to prevent any water loss and/or damage, as well as store enough water in clean, sealed containers to last during this period.
