A suspected theft incident unfolded at Joy Medical Cannabis in Cape Town on Tuesday night, involving five individuals believed to have acted in a coordinated manner, reports Cape {town} Etc.
According to widely circulated social media footage, the group appeared to use a distraction tactic to carry out the alleged theft.
The clip, which runs for about a minute, shows two men engaging the cashier on one side of the store while three women browse near a display stocked with edible products.
What initially appears to be casual browsing soon takes a more deliberate turn. One of the women is seen taking an item from the shelf and placing it into a bag. Moments later, another woman follows suit, adding a second item while intermittently looking around the store.
In response to the ongoing discussions sparked by the viral video, police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg stated, ‘Cape Town Central police are aware of the video circulating on social media.
‘However, no criminal case was registered for investigation. The victim is encouraged to go to the local police station to register a criminal case so that the incident can be investigated,’
