The City of Cape Town’s (COCT) Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, has issued a stern warning to motorists driving with no number plates, as well as those driving with fake plates.
According to Smith, there is an increasing trend of people avoiding the use of number plates, however, the City’s Traffic Service has initiated an operation to nip the issue in the bud.
“Your number is up. And those whose number plates are sitting in the window are also included.
“This is a national law and is nothing new. If you can purposefully break small laws, then other laws you’ll break the same. Whether you drive a Citi Golf, a Polo or a Gti, whether you are arrested in Grassy Park or Green Point, you will find the police cells are all much the same,” Smith said.
Warning:
Meanwhile, the City’s Traffic Service is also calling on unregistered number plate manufacturers to register their businesses and comply with legislated standards set out for number plate manufacturers and distributors.
