A cold front has unleashed torrential rainfall across Cape Town today, resulting in significant flooding that has rendered several roads impassable and created hazardous driving conditions for commuters, reports Cape {town} Etc.
The City of Cape Town has issued warnings urging motorists to avoid affected areas and exercise extreme caution as emergency services remain on high alert, continuously monitoring the evolving situation.
According to city officials, numerous road closures have been implemented due to the relentless downpour, with floodwaters rising dangerously in various locations.
Traffic officers have been deployed to manage the situation, directing vehicles away from dangerous zones and ensuring public safety, City said.
‘Widespread flooding of roadways has occurred.
‘We ask road users to please exercise extreme caution. Additionally, be on the lookout for obstructions in the roadways, such as fallen tree branches and other debris that may pose further risks,’ City stated.
The impact of the flooding can be seen in multiple neighbourhoods throughout Cape Town.
Notable locations affected include:
Strandfontein Road at the Ottery/Varkensvlei Roads intersection.
Beach Road and Coronation Road corner, Koeberg.

Ward Councillor Donovan Nelson, who represents Ward 65, which includes Lotus River, Grassy Park, and Parkwood, shared a harrowing account of his recent rescue of a young boy from drowning as he attempted to navigate through a severely flooded road.
This incident underscores the acute dangers posed by the severe weather conditions.
Motorists are advised to remain vigilant amid the tumultuous weather.
