The Vlakkenberg fire remains well contained in Table Mountain National Park, SANParks said on Wednesday, 26 March 2026, reports Cape {town} Etc.
SANParks said crews monitored isolated hotspots along the left flank near Constantia Nek and surrounding wine farm areas.
The fire started on Tuesday, 24 March and the latest update kept the focus on steady containment work across the affected slopes. As cloud cover lifted, teams moved back along the fire line and continued their patrols.
‘Around 70 SANParks firefighters remain on the fire line, supported by partner agencies, with an additional 30 ground crews deployed this morning. Aerial resources are active, although limited at times by low cloud,’ SANParks stated.
SANParks said aerial drone surveillance has helped identify remaining hotspots and it confirmed that ‘no infrastructure or farms are at risk’.
Authorities said that trail closures remained in place and urged the public to comply with all restrictions.
The response also reflects Cape Town’s fire season, when dry, windy conditions can push crews into sustained monitoring across the urban edge and surrounding slopes.
