Voice of the Cape celebrated a local journalist’s success at a national awards ceremony. Aisha Rachel Mohamed won Best News Reader at the Boitumelo Radio Awards in Johannesburg. Organisers described the event as inaugural and said it showcased community broadcasting talent nationwide.
They reported entries from 73 community radio stations across South Africa for the ceremony.
Voice of the Cape posted photographs and a congratulatory message on its Facebook page. The station highlighted Mohamed’s work as a journalist and Newsbeat programme producer at VOC.

Colleague Loushe Jordaan Gilbert received two nominations for a Best Current Affairs audio package. The nominations recognised strong storytelling, careful reporting and skilled audio production by VOC staff. (Facebook)
Organisers said the awards aim to recognise community voices that connect listeners to stories. Mohamed described the award as humbling and said it would motivate further reporting work. VOC plans to feature the win on programmes and in staff profiles on air. Listeners and industry peers responded with congratulatory messages in the Facebook comments section.
