An attempted car theft took place at the McDonalds in Gardens, which is located just off Long Street, on Sunday morning. Footage of the attempted hijacking was captured by an eyewitness and submitted to Cape Talk.
In the video, the female vehicle owner can be seen pushing past the two men attempting to steal her car. With the assistance of an individual at the scene, the woman was able to get to her car. As she reversed, the assailants started trying to enter the vehicle.
The woman’s terrified screams for help can be heard in the clip as the men continue attempting to enter her car.
Security guards near the parking lot can be seen watching the incident unfold but not offering any assistance.
Cape Town ETC reached out to the South African Police Service (SAPS) for further comment, but police were not yet aware of the incident’s occurrence.
