Update:
City of Cape Town’s Fire & Rescue Services confirmed that while the building fire in Victoria Road, Woodstock, was extinguished on Saturday afternoon, a relief crew remains on site to monitor for any flare-ups, reports Cape {town} Etc.
According to Fire & Rescue Services spokesperson Jermaine Carelse, the fire, which was reported at approximately 11:30am, was extinguished at 4:30 pm.
‘The first arriving officer made a quick assessment and called for additional resources to contain and extinguish the fire inside this facility,’ said Carelse.
Resources from Sea Point, Salt River, Wynberg, Roeland Street, Goodwood, Lakeside and Epping were all dispatched to the scene for assistance. The crews were battling the fire from Victoria Road and Calvin Road to protect the adjacent properties.
Adding further details of the fire incident, Carelse explained: ‘With the amount of black smoke emitting from the [building], it necessitated the use of self-containing breathing apparatus as the atmosphere inside was deemed extremely hazardous’.
By the time the fire was extinguished, the ground- and first floor were completely gutted. The tenants of these floors were evacuated and accounted for, with no injuries reported.
Carelse added that the the owner of the furniture factory has arranged security for the premises.

The building, a furniture factory, has caught alight in Woodstock, Cape Town.
CoCT firefighters from Milnerton, Epping and Brooklyn are reportedly on the scene and tending to the fire.
As it stands, the flames have been contained.
Residents have been advised to make use of alternative routes and make way for emergency vehicles.
