South Africa’s Glenrose Xaba claimed the women’s race in the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon this morning, breaking Elana Meyer’s national marathon record, Cape {town} Etc reports.

What made this achievement all the more impressive is the fact that this was Xaba’s debut event at 42.2km, finishing in 2:22:22.
Kenya’s Pascalia Chepkogei finished third, while Ethiopia’s Mara Dibaba Hurssa finished second, 14 seconds behind Xaba.

With a time of 2:08:16, Ethiopian Adisa Tola Adera broke Stephen Mokoka’s track record to win the 2024 Sanlam Marathon. Ethiopia swept the podium, with Adane Gebre followed by Mitku Tafa Dekeba in third.

Competing in the wheelchair race, Japan’s Sho Watanabe was the first over the line in a time of 1:37:33
Michelle Wheeler from the USA won the women’s wheelchair event in 2:03:22
