A morning drive quickly turned into a nightmare for a local motorist who found himself at the centre of a terrifying road rage incident in Kuilsriver on Friday.
The incident occurred on Hindle Road while the victim was travelling with his wife and their six-month-old baby, highlighting the potential dangers of aggressive driving and violent confrontations on the roads.
Adam detailed his harrowing experience in a locked Facebook account, stating that a taxi driver ‘aggressively forced his way’ in front of him, damaging Adam’s vehicle in the process.
‘The robot was green and I was driving straight,’ the victim recalled, explaining that he had the right of way when the taxi driver clipped his front bumper, resulting in damage to his headlight.
‘When I got out to inspect the damage, the taxi driver approached me in a rage, shouting and swearing,’
In the midst of the chaos, the victims’s thoughts were solely on the safety of his wife and their infant daughter in the car.
He decided against escalating the situation but was met with violence when the taxi driver punched him twice as he attempted to return to his vehicle. ‘I told my wife to start recording, hoping it would protect us,’ the victim said. However, this action only fueled the driver’s aggression.
As the situation escalated, Adam described how the taxi driver screamed threats and tried to break into their car. ‘He screamed, ‘Give me that phone now!’ and attempted to smash the passenger-side window, right where my wife was sitting with our baby on her lap,’
Fortunately, the vehicle’s doors were locked and the window held firm, but the driver did not relent. ‘He kicked the door, smashed the side mirror, then came around to my side and broke that mirror too before shattering my window,’ the victim recounted.
With the situation deteriorating, the Kuilsriver victim recognised the need to escape. ‘Out of fear, my wife stopped recording. He then tried to grab my car keys. That’s when I realised we needed to get away immediately,’ he said.
Thankfully, other drivers intervened, giving the just enough space to flee onto the shoulder of the road. ‘I have never been more terrified. My family could have been seriously hurt,’ he expressed.
In response to the incident, Codeta, the taxi organisation associated with the driver, issued a statement expressing disappointment over the behaviour of their employee. ‘It is with regret and disappointment to learn that one of our drivers was involved in a road rage this morning (Friday),‘ Codeta stated, confirming they had reported the matter to law enforcement after observing the attack on social media.
‘We thank the public for bringing this to our attention and not taking law into their own hands. As Codeta, we will never promote barbaric acts to prevail in our presence,’
