A 47-year-old hiker was hoisted into the Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness EMS / Air Mercy Service (AMS) rescue helicopter from the India Venster hiking trail on Table Mountain on Saturday morning, 30 March, after collapsing in the extreme heat.

In a well-rehearsed routine, a rescue climber double-checked all connections before signalling to the aircraft above that the injured hiker was ready to be hoisted.

From a seated position, with her hands holding the rescue harness’s ‘collar,’ the cable tightened and the hiker was safely lifted from the mountainside into the rescue helicopter in a matter of seconds.
The incident was resolved at 11:52am.
