Residents in various areas of Cape Town are advised to prepare for temporary water supply disruptions as the City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate embarks on critical maintenance work aimed at enhancing the reliability of the water supply infrastructure, reports Cape {town} Etc.
Scheduled to take place in March 2026, these operations are essential for ensuring a sustainable water supply for the community.
The maintenance work which includes pipe and valve installations, repairs, and replacements has been meticulously planned to minimise inconvenience for residents while addressing potential infrastructure vulnerabilities.
Although not every household will be affected, those in the targeted zones are urged to take the necessary precautions, including storing sufficient water in clean, sealed containers before the disruptions take effect.
Areas affected by planned disruptions
- Avondale – Atlantis: Water supply will be temporarily shut off on 9 March 2026 from 09:00 to 16:00. Residents in the area bounded by Charel Uys Drive, Reygersdal Drive, and Dassenberg Drive should prepare to be without water during this period. A water tanker will be available to serve domestic needs.
- Eureka Estate – Elsies River: A shut-off will occur from 09:00 to 18:00 on 11 March 2025. This area, bordered by Owen Road, 42nd Avenue, Connaught Road, and 35th Street, will also have a water tanker moving through to provide necessary supplies.
- Malibu Village, Electric City and Forest Village – Blue Downs: These areas will experience disruptions on 10 March 2026 from 09:00 to 15:00, followed by a second complete shut-off on 12 March from 09:00 to 18:00 while a valve is installed.

Moreover, zero-pressure tests will take place across multiple locations impacting residents in Parow, Elsies Rivier, Woodstock, and various other neighbourhoods.
On specific dates ranging from 10 to 12 March 2026, residents may experience low water pressure or complete supply interruptions. This necessary testing validates the effectiveness of existing infrastructure and helps mitigate future disruptions.
The Water Demand Management Strategy has been specifically designed to manage water pressure efficiently while reducing pipe bursts and minimising water wastage.
It is understood that unanticipated complexities may arise during maintenance, potentially prolonging the process.
Residents are advised to consider the following steps to prepare for the planned disruptions:
- Store enough water in clean, sealed containers in advance for use during the outage.
- Keep taps closed during the supply interruption to prevent damage when water service is restored.
