The Western Cape reported 38 984 active COVID-19 infections, with a total number of 414 830 confirmed cases and 360 321 recoveries as of Wednesday, August 4.

As at 1pm on 4 August 2021, the Western Cape had 38 984 active COVID-19 infections, with a total number 414 830 COVID-19 cases to date and 360 321 recoveries.

Here’s a breakdown of the province’s COVID-19 stats :
- Total number of COVID-19 cases to date 414 830
- Total recoveries 360 321
- Total deaths 15 525
- Total active cases (currently infected patients) 38 984
- Tests conducted 2 056 509
- Hospitalisations (private and public combined) 3631 of which 748 are in high care or ICU
The Western Cape Government also administered a cumulative total of 1 219 744 vaccines to healthcare workers, staff in the education sector and those within eligible age brackets. The province’s death toll stands at 15 525 with 108 COVID-19 related deaths being reported.
Meanwhile, the department of health is continuing to vaccinate hundreds of residents at various vaccination sites in the province.

In the Meantime, Western Cape Premier Alan Winde has been engaging with hospital management to identify ways to approach the increase in COVID-19 infections. “Our healthcare workers across the province are bravely working to save lives right now, as hospitalisations increase at the third wave peak. While our platform is currently coping, it is still under pressure over this time,” Winde said.
