The dawn of a new year brings fresh hopes and opportunities, particularly for jobseekers in the Western Cape, reports Cape {town} Etc.
The provincial government’s ‘Getting YOU to Work’ programme continues to play a pivotal role in reducing one of the significant barriers to employment: the cost of transport.
With an array of benefits awaiting those seeking work, beneficiaries are urged to ensure they collect and use their travel vouchers before the deadline of 31 March 2026.
This innovative programme provides eligible jobseekers with free travel vouchers for Golden Arrow Bus Services, enabling them to attend job interviews and travel to places of employment without the financial burden of transport costs.
Since the programme’s inception, over 8,000 jobseekers have successfully accessed these invaluable vouchers, facilitating more than 28,000 trips to various economic opportunities throughout the metro.
A recent survey has highlighted the programme’s significant impact, revealing that an impressive 95% of users found the vouchers beneficial.
More strikingly, 35% of beneficiaries were able to secure employment directly as a result of the support provided. The majority of beneficiaries are young people and women, who account for 72% and 70% of participants respectively, showcasing the initiative’s role in promoting inclusivity in the job market.

One such successful beneficiary reflected on her experience, stating, ‘The voucher has helped a lot. It opened opportunities I wouldn’t have had otherwise and helped me secure a job,’
This sentiment resonates with many who have leveraged the programme to uplift their lives and attain sustainable employment.
The programme is currently in its second phase, which allows jobseekers to self-register, thereby simplifying the process significantly. This follows an initial phase that required registration through an employer.
Western Cape Mobility Department spokesperson, Muneera Allie emphasised the programme’s purpose: ‘For many unemployed jobseekers, transport is the biggest hurdle, and these travel vouchers provide practical support to overcome it.
‘The Jobseeker Travel Vouchers are a practical tool to help people access opportunities. If you are already registered, please collect your card and use your trips before the end of March this year. If you are looking for work and need transport support, you can register yourself and start accessing free travel for job opportunities,’
Jobseekers looking to register for the first time can easily do so by visiting https://gettingyoutowork.westerncape.gov.za, selecting ‘Jobseeker Registration,’ and completing the online sign-up form following the prompts.
The Department is encouraging all eligible jobseekers to register, collect their cards, and fully utilise the available trips to connect with potential employment opportunities.
