Firearms, ammunition, drugs and a grenade were confiscated on Wednesday as members of the SAPS reacted to various public tip-offs.
The SAPS Provincial Extortion Task Team confiscated a firearm and a consignment of drugs in Heinz Park Philippi, yesterday.
According to spokesperson, Ndakhe Gwala, at approximately 1:30am on Wednesday, members responded to a tip-off and raided an address in the area where a gang group allegedly stores their firearms and drugs.
“Members searched the premises and confiscated a.38 special revolver with two rounds of ammunition and mandrax tablets,” said Gwala “Two suspects, aged 19 and 37, were arrested on the spot.”
“Once charged, they will make their court appearance in Wynberg.”

In an unrelated incident, members of Bishop Lavis police reacted to another tip-off and searched a residence in Bonteheuwel at around 11am yesterday.
“This search resulted in the discovery of a hand grenade buried in the yard and the arrest of a 55-year-old man.”
“The circumstances surrounding the discovery are still under investigation and the suspect is expected to make his court appearance in Bishop Lavis.”

Meanwhile, police have again cautioned the public about online marketplaces following another robbery at Brown Farm yesterday.
“A Marketplace advertiser was lured to Brown Farm under the pretext of delivering advertised goods,” explained spokesperson, Sergeant Wesley Twigg, “He was robbed by four suspects.”
“Nyanga police, who were on patrol, were flagged down by the victim who relayed his ordeal.”
“As part of the police investigation into the crime incident, one of the suspects, a 17-year-old female, was spotted and arrested by the police. The search continues for the remaining suspects.”
Once charged, the suspect will appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s court.
“Another plea is made to all social media advertisers to exercise caution when dealing with potential customers,” Twigg added.
“Police in Nyanga have recorded several incidents where advertisers are lured to Browns Farm, robbed and attacked.”
Last week, six suspects between the ages of 15 and 17 were arrested by Nyanga Police following an attempted robbery.
In September, three other suspects were arrested for a similar incident.
