In light of the current high windy conditions, road users are advised to take note of the following.
- Huguenot Tunnel is closed for heavy motors, caravans and trailers (N1 inbound and outbound).
- Chapman’s Peak Drive is closed.
- Clarence Drive is open, but motorists must practice caution and beware of small rocks (from Rooi Els to Gordon’s Bay) when travelling on this stretch.
- Baden Powell Drive is closed.
According to community news group WC Traffic & Safety, Baden Powell Drive has been closed as a safety precaution due to sand across the roadway.
Additionally, the news group added that several more road closures remain in place:
- Monwabisi, between Oscar Mpetha Road and Mew Way (services on scene)
- Sonwabe Coastal Park, between Capricorn Circle and Strandfontein Road
- Lucannon Drive
Motorists should expect delays and are advised to make use of alternative routes or allow for additional travelling time.
The traffic alert comes as the South African Weather Service (SAWS) issued a Yellow level 4 warning for damaging winds over much of the Western Cape on Wednesday, with strong south-easterly winds expected to reach 50 to 70kph, gusting up to 90kph.
According to SAWS, these conditions are forecasted up until midnight on Friday, 14 March.
