The City of Cape Town and the Swartland municipality are on alert after the South African Weather Service (SAWS) issued a level 10 fire danger warning for these areas.
‘Veld Fire Conditions’ are expected from Friday at 8am until 6:59pm the same day.
Of the Conditions, the SAWS expresses that “conditions are such that the FDI index is above 75. Under these conditions fires may develop and spread rapidly resulting in damage to property and possible loss of human and/or animal life.”
Their instruction is that “Fire teams, labour and equipment are to be placed on stand-by. A first sign of smoke, every possible measure should be taken in order to bring the fire under control in the shortest possible time.”
